Not last, weekend
but the one before that I went upta camp with my friend Matt, he brought his
sled and his wheelah. I got home from
school on that Friday afternoon and got my shit together he then picked me up
and we went to his house. We got
everything loaded on up and headed to his camp was. We stopped at this gas station on Verona in
Bucksport and filled up the truck and the snowmobile and four wheelah and then
we crossed the bridge and headed to unity to the camp. The drive wasn’t that bad packed a couple
lips got a crap ton of matador beef sticks or whateveah they were (they’re
basically slim jims) went to the grocery store and got: like a 40 somthin case
of beer, a big case of diet coke, some hungry men’s, frozen pizza, milk, and some
other stuff.
We got to the top
of the camp road but we had to leave the truck and trailer at the top of the
camp road in Matts buddies driveway cause the road to camp was covered with
snow and only accessible by the wheelah and the snowmobile. We made a couple trips up and down the camp
road; unloading the truck and getting everything down there and set up. We unloaded everything from the wheelah and
snowmobile into the camp, turned on the power, cracked a beer and cracked a
coke, filled the woodstove with wood, then stocked up on wood for the
night. We got the fire going and turned
on some of the heaters and opened the trap door sorta thing to the up stairs
where I was gonna be sleeping. Made sure
the poo burner worked (Thank God It Did) the only problem is that he only has a
poo burner and you cant take a piss in a poo burner so we had to piss in a
bucket.
We finally got out
on the ice and drilled some holes and there was just over 2ft of ice and maybe
1in of snow on the lake. We got the
traps in the back of the wheelah and the bait bucket and that was my job to
haul the auger around till Matt said where to drill and haul the traps around
to the holes and get the bait ready to get hooked. We tooled around and then we went across part
of the lake on the four wheelah and snowmobile to one of the coves on the lake. After that, we went back to the holes we
drilled and checked the traps.
After we checked
the traps, we headed back to camp and sat on the porch with a diet coke in one
hand and beer in his we sat there with the binoculars lookin at the traps and
spying on the people out on the ice with their ice shacks. We weren’t seeing any flags but the other
people out there we gettin flag after flag after flag. We finally saw a flag then raced on out he
was doing a 100 and I only 70, because that’s the fastest the ole wheelah would
go. We got to the hole and pulled out
about a 30in pickerel, it was the biggest one he’d caught. I wanted to eat it but pickerel have a crap
ton of bones so it would be hard to deal with and we already had a lot of
food. Unfortunately when I was brap
braap brapin on the wheelah I knocked over the bait bucket in the back and it
leaked. Luckily, it didn’t leak too much
and no bait was lost. Overall, it was a
pretty good day out on the ice even though we only caught one fish. We stayed up wicked late, he passed out with
a beer in his hand, and I almost passed out too, by the end I was the night I
was wicked tired and the second my head hit that pillow I was out cold.

Beside the bit about chew and beer, I like it. Now Nick, what an outdoorsy guy you are. You have a solid, easy writer's voice and a fun way with words. Thanks for the pic. Only one fish? You could lie about that part, you know...
